How To Make a Mini Volcano

How fantastic to see your enthusiasm for this science experiment, Room 3! I do hope you get a chance to try it at home. Be sure that Mum, Dad or an adult helps you! Have fun!

Here's what you need:

1 tsp baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate)
1 tsp citric acid

4-5 droplets of red food colouring

Note - you can add more baking soda and citric acid, but both quantities should be the same.

A plastic cup that can be turned upside down to hold all ingredients and so it looks like a mountain.
A plastic plate to catch ingredients.

See pictures below.

Let me know how you get on, or post some pictures of you being a 'super scientist' at home!
Enjoy!

Welcome to Term Two

It's great to be back in the classroom!

We have started our Inquiry Learning by making our own volcanoes this week. The children were very excited by this and they could easily show you how to make a volcano at home, using baking soda, citric acid and red food colouring. We have also followed up with some fabulous writing and are looking forward to sharing this experiment with all of the juniors during adventure time on Friday.

Kia Ora Parents and Students in Room 3,

Thank you for your support over the last two weeks. It has been a pleasure meeting you all. I am very blessed to have a lovely class and a wonderful bunch of parents and colleagues to work alongside.

We have been having a wonderful time swimming and had the fabulous expertise of Ces, from Swimming New Zealand last week to assist us all in our teaching and learning. We will continue to build on the water confidence and floating skills work, she taught us.

On THURSDAY afternoons, our swimming time is 2.30-3pm, please feel free to pick up your child from the pool area, as I will have their backpacks and belongings with them, so it should not be necessary to go back to class. Otherwise, we will make our way back to the main quad in time for the 3pm pick-up.

Thank you to those of you, who have made yourselves available to help during this lesson.

I look forward to seeing you all at the school picnic, this Thursday 18th February at 6pm.
